Their Mission

In the spirit of fellowship and comradeship, our mission is to support and provide our fellow veterans – who are homeless or in transition – with the life skills, confidence, self-advocacy, and job skill training through the culinary arts and the resources needed to lead a productive and independent life.

They donate their time and the free dinner for our veterans, their families and friends could not happen without Culinary Arts Boot Camp for Veterans!

We encourage you to reward them by clicking the link which will take you Amazon where you can select from items needed by the veterans in the program.

The American Legion Post 1

Is there for veterans when they need help.

Not all Veterans need help but there are times when a veteran turns to the Legion for help with a light bill or rent, or other essentials. This fund is there for those veterans that gave so much to us when they need it most.

What the Weber Christmas Party means to Veterans and The American Legion families.

Seven years ago, a phone call was made to The American Legion, Leyden*Chiles*

Wickersham Post No. 1.

The Weber family was looking for a place to hold their traditional Christmas Eve party. It had to be a place with enough room to hold their families and friends.  That was the start of a very special annual fund-raising event at LCW Post 1.

The parties are open to our Post 1 Legion members, which makes it special for an individual, like me, who would be staying home alone, since I have no family living in Colorado.

Each year the family chooses a different veteran organization as the recipient of the fund-raising efforts.  The impact of their thoughtfulness and energy speaks volumes.  One year, a wish list of toys and clothing was posted so gifts could be ordered and sent to an autistic child of a veteran who was being raised by his grandparents.

Many members of Post 1 look forward to attending the event, and this year is no exception. Thank you, Weber Family, for being members of LCW Legion Families.

Nick Yagley - SWEENEY

Hi, my name is Nick,
As I did not serve, I’m part of the Sons of the American Legion at LCW Post 1.

Nationally, we have pillars that we are here to support, and I have to say that the Weber
Christmas Eve Party and Fundraiser have checked each of them.

Every year all members of LCW Post 1 are invited to be part of the event, including their Family’s
white elephant tradition (with them even bringing extra gifts for members who don’t know about it) and a great meal. If there are any leftovers, they have been donated multiple times to be used the next day for a Christmas Day potluck.

I want to mention just some of the great impacts of the Weber Family event overtime:
• Auxiliary Unit 1 Sock Drive.
• Annual Coat Drive by Post 1976 and Post 1.
• Clothing and other items for a younger person, who lost both of his Veteran
parents.
• 50/50’s, which go towards great causes. Including LCW Post 1 Veteran Assistance Fund, which helps Veterans in distress.
• Food and other necessary items for the 244th Engineer Battalion
• Culinary Art Boot Camp for Veterans
• The Legion was shut down during Covid, but that didn’t stop them. They put together a plan to get BBQ delivered to Veterans and other LCW Post 1 members.

I can’t say thank you enough to the Weber’s, Extended Family, and Everyone who as ever donated,

Q & A

What is the primary goal of the event?

To celebrate the holidays, to offer our veterans a safe place to go to have fun and enjoy Christmas Eve, to provide free meals for all those that attend, to bring joy through the gift exchange, to fill the coffers with money from the 50-50, auctioned items, and donations, and to honor and remember our veterans at the holidays.

How can one attend the event?

The event is free an open to veterans, veterans families and friends and those who want to enjoy an evening celebrating with veterans.

How can one or participate in the event if I can't be there?

Buy 50-50 tickets, donate your second home or cabin for a weekend to be auctioned off, donate something from your business that can be auctioned off, make something someone would want to have to be auctioned off, donate money.

What time does it start?

How are the funds raised utilized?

All funds raised are given to the American Legion Post 1. The funds raised are directly funneled into programs benefiting veterans, including financial assistance.
